DATES:
JAPANESE TOUR DIARY A ‘behind the scenes’ insight into some of the dates on the Jeff Beck tour. Tokyo, Tuesday July 3rd 2005 Diamond Dust sounded really good. Jason has some really lush sounds and Johan is mixing them in better than I've heard in the past. The Tokyo Forum is a great sounding venue. The poor crew had to completely tear down the set for the day off due to an annual maintenance program that was scheduled to take place. So, they're in early tomorrow morning to start over again. I feel for the lighting guy, who had hoped to get in more time with a CD of the live tracks before JB came over. But he's doing a really good job regardless. Hope he's not thrown by the changes about to ensue. We went out for Indian afterwards which was great. The naan bread was the size of a keyboard though so logistics were a little rough. Everyone seemed in good spirits. Hiroshima, Thursday July 7th 2005 The set has been changing every night and Bolero is now the opener and Earthquake now starts the encore, followed by Blast and Going Down. Pino has developed a killer walking bass line on a section of Rollin’ and Tumblin’ that is superb. They had a very long soundcheck. I was amazed at how long Jeff played before the show. I'd be completely worn out if it was me. Everyone is well rested by now I think. Jason's trading with Jeff on Blue Wind and Star Cycle is riviting--world class conversations! Jimmy's voice is in top form and as he says 'road ready' now. Jet lag, plane oxygen, and time changes are pretty rough on the vocal chords. Off to Osaka for 2 back to back shows. I got a couple who had flown from America back stage tonight. They bought tickets for 6 shows and the man is terrified of flying.. Such dedication to the arts! Osaka, Saturday July 9th 2005 Gigs are burnin’. I think Vinnie's brain will explode from the energy he's putting into these gigs. Jeff let out a cat fight scream out of the guitar that was unsurpassed last night. Over the Rainbow continues to slay as the ending piece. It's a good long show and people are definitely getting their money’s worth. I think the encore must be 15 minutes now. Unlike America...nobody leaves until the bitter end. Nagoya, Monday July 11th 2005 Johan thought tonight was the best so far---burnin’. We're currently on the train back to Osaka (1 hour) and will fly to Sapporo tomorrow.
